Getting colourful for charity

With one of our newly appointed club committee members Rebecca Cleary taking the reigns and initiative on developing the community aspect of our basketball club, the inspiration came to her for the club to hold a fundraiser colour run in partnership with Decathlon Glasgow to raise vital money for a local charity.

We had the idea, the venue, and now a head strong leader to make it happen... but we did not have a charity to support and deliver in the name of. Regardless, we decided to begin promotion of the fundraiser in the hope that some inspiration would come to us throughout the planning process when the answer came to us from the parent of one of our youngest and brightest basketballers from the Superleague program... the Accord Hospice charity in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

This charity had been very close and helpful to the family who had suggested it and it was a no brainer to support a charity that will have supported so many in our local area including some of our own basketball community.

The colour run was a great success with over 100 players, parents, children, and family members joining us at the Decathlon facility for the run, which was accompanied by some basketball sessions and shooting competitions provided by our amazing young coaches and Basketball Development Officer.

Thankyou to everyone to who joined in with our fundraising efforts for the Accord Hospice and we hope that it was as fun for everyone who attended as it was for us who got to run the event. We were able to raise a total of £750 for the charity and we hope this is able to go towards providing accessible and helpful services that they provide for families across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.
